Prince

Thank U Berry Munch. I will now review this addition to the Girl Scouts lineup. It's a small thing, but the name sounds a little too much like a "Purple Rain"-era Prince song: Sure it's cute, if you're the type of person who doesn't cringe when ordering the Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity breakfast at IHOP.  

The last time the Swedish electronic band Little Dragon performed in Charlotte (Nov. 24, 2009 at the Milestone), they didn't exactly play to a full house. "It was not packed," said Charlotte resident Carla Hough, who attended the show. "There was definitely room to move ... there were people breakdancing in the back. It was that much room."  

From his hilarious opening number about waiting for the results of an Aids test, to his brilliant Purple Rain finale lampooning Prince, New York comedy songwriter Stephen Lynch was on top form for the last UK gig of his sell-out Three Balloons Tour. With just a guitar and some cleverly constructed lyrics, the crowd got their money's worth as Lynch rattled through old sing-along favourites and new material interspersed with comedy sketches projected on to a big screen. Highlights included Queer ...  

I've never made it up to Louisville for Thunder Over Louisville, but I'll be trying my hardest to do so this year. Why? Because Wax Fang will be playing Prince's super-classic Purple Rain in its entirety just after the fireworks end.  

They entered The X Factor for fame and fortune and although there was only one official winner, this year's finalists were all living the dream in Sheffield last night. acked out Sheffield Arena on the national tour. Lucie Jones, Stacey Solomon, Lloyd Daniels, Jamie Archer, Olly Murs, Danyl Johnson and twins John and Edward all relished their chance to shine, enjoying the adulation of thousands of adoring fans that many pop stars take years to acquire. Were you there?  

Led by cousins Quinn Walker, and Austin Fisher, Suckers are the latest band to emerge from Brooklyn's vibrant art-rock scene. That track drew nods from the music press, who compared the band to the Talking Heads , David Bowie and 'Purple Rain'-era Prince . Now, hot on the heels of signing with New York indie label Frenchkiss Records, Suckers are looking forward to their imminent appearance at SXSW .  

1. !!! , Heart of Hearts 12-inch single -- A picture disc for an excellent single by the "indie-dance" band. The A-side has the band's name/symbol, and the B-side is some sort of animal. I'm going with sloths. 2.  

Ann Wilson had the right idea. Addressing 3,000-plus of the faithful in Victoria Monday night, she congratulated us Canucks on winning the U.S./Canada Olympic hockey game. "It was awesome and boy, it had to go that way," said Heart's lead vocalist, resplendent in a purple velvet jacket, shaking her trademark mane of black curls.  

'Avatar' vs. 'Hurt Locker,' Sandra Bullock vs. Meryl Streep, potential wins for veterans (Jeff Bridges) and first-timers (Mo'nique) alike. But there's plenty we dug up about the 2010 nominees (aside from what they did before they were famous ) that's intriguing, funny or just plain weird. So although hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin promise to keep the ceremony humming, should there be a lull in the proceedings, feel free to amuse yourself by pondering some of the random trivia we've unearthed here.
